Plain-Language Glossary

You don't need to know wuxia fiction to enjoy this test. Here's every unfamiliar term, explained simply.

Jianghu / Wulin

The fictional world of wuxia stories — martial artists, sects, and honor codes. Think of it simply as "the world this test is set in."

Righteous / Unorthodox / Demonic factions

The three broad camps in wuxia fiction. Righteous sects value principle and morality; unorthodox factions live free of convention; the demonic cult values strength and domination above all.

Sect

A group or school someone belongs to. In this test, each of the sixteen personality results is called a "sect."

Weapon

Each sect in the test comes with a signature weapon that symbolizes its style — purely for flavor.

Engage / Withdraw

Whether you draw energy from being around people, or from time alone.

External / Internal

Whether you learn best by diving in and experiencing things directly, or by thinking things through first.

Law / Loyalty

Whether you lead with logic and principle when deciding something, or with empathy and relationships.

Form / Flow

Whether you prefer making a plan and sticking to it, or adapting on the fly as things happen.

The Four Pulses

A flavor term for the four axes above (Engage/Withdraw, External/Internal, Law/Loyalty, Form/Flow) taken together.

Qi Deviation

In wuxia fiction, a dangerous backfire that happens when martial training goes wrong. In this test's results, it simply means "a situation that stresses this type out."

Sparring Match / Nemesis

A playful way of saying "your best match" and "the type you clash with most."
